News Break

We inturupt the pictures for a news break from The Arizona Daily Star...
"Missing monsoon
Wednesday's high of 108 degrees was the 30th straight day of triple-digit heat in Tucson. That's the fourth-longest streak on record and just nine days short of the record set in 1987.
Isolated thunderstorms fired across the region Wednesday as a high-pressure system along the Arizona-Utah border pulled moisture here from the northeast.

"It's not that deep source of moisture that we really look for during the monsoon season, which usually comes from the south and southeast," said Chris Rasmussen, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Tucson.

For the monsoon to get going - 2005 is at least the fifth-latest start on record - the high needs to set up around the Four Corners. But forecasters expect the high will head south over the next few days, leading to drier conditions. "
